When Video Cards Explode

When Video Cards Explode

By Ryan Van Etten on 06/20/2010

For the last few months I’d occasionally been hearing mini-explosion sounds like those bang snaps that I remember from my semi-pyromaniac youth. I finally figured out they were coming from my computer—a custom PC that I built in 2007. After another explosive pop yesterday, the graphics on my screen started to look like they were drunk. I opened up the PC case and my 2 SLI graphics cards were literally like a million degrees!

By Ryan Van Etten on 06/10/2010

When it comes to problem solving, engineers are fearless because they follow these rules. 1. K.I.S.S. Keep it simple, stupid! Forget the frills and the cheap thrills. Focus on the heart of the matter. 2. Identify. 3. Reduce. 4. Learn. 5. Design. 6. Source. 7. Optimize. 8. Test. 9. Iterate. 10. Amplify.

Free Press promotes recycling and environmentally-friendly causes throughout the event. 100+ bands/DJ’s performed—double from last year—and included headliners like The Flaming Lips, Kid Sister, and Dead Prez. TC Electronic PolyTune iPhone App

By Ryan Van Etten on 06/04/2010

Tune up, in sixth gear, for 10 bucks. Modeled after the popular pedal, the TC Electronic PolyTune has now cruised into the App Store. Two days ago they released the app with a promotional free price tag for the first two days. They’ve now curbed the promotion but considering the killer feedback we’ve seen so far, it will likely race into the top paid music apps.

By Ryan Van Etten on 06/03/2010

In the sea of music blogs, best means most relevant to the reader. How can bands or listeners find blogs in their genre? How can they find blogs in a specific city? Google is an obvious search tool for most topics, but to really get in the trenches and find smaller indie blogs, here are five super-effective search techniques. Includes live music photos.
