Thx yea I was surprised too. In the NYC metro area there's basically almost rock stations anymore but there's tons and tons of indie rock bands. I would put myself on Pirate Bay, cause I figure the people who would download it there aren't going to buy it anyway but maybe it'd help spread the word. Good point about the supportiveness—I think you're onto something with that. That goes in line with some of the statistics in Bas's thesis.

Excellent as always, Ryan. I know I’m late to this article, but I was stunned (and heartened) to see a total lack of rock music on the top pirated list. My theory is that rock fans are generally more supportive of their favorite artists, and so they’re less likely to pirate.

I’ve searched for myself on Pirate Bay before, and thankfully I’m not on there. I’m on many other file-sharing sites, though, and my data analysis shows that “Soundstatues download free” is a major search term.

But it’s all part of the digital revolution: production and distribution costs are essentially zero, so pirating is a fair price to pay.

Censorship, either way is a BAD thing. Look at the more extreme cases, like China. I really think that in the next years VPN services and proxies will get more and more popular. I use http://www.sunvpn.com/ for some time now, it`s working great, but I would just like to be able to access any site I want without any techie stuff…
